Wedding Dance Voice Over Edit for Father Daughter or Mother Son Dances

Michael Guyre — Thu, 22 Mar 2018 14:26:37 +0000

So you have selected the perfect song to dance to with your father on your wedding day. The moment has come and the DJ keys on the microphone and in his best radio announcer voice (you know the one with the cheesy deep tone) he says

Ladies and Gentlemen! At this time, I would like to invite the bride and her father to the dance floor for the traditional father-daughter dance".

Whats wrong with this scenario? For starters, it's impersonal its same exact way he introduced the last 100 father-daughter dances. He didn't use your names, and his words provided no emotional moment enhancing value. Do you really want the moment you dance with your father on your wedding day to be bland, impersonal and lacking emotion? Think about it, how many years has your dad waited to share this dance with you? He just walked you down the aisle, gave you a kiss, and "gave his baby girl away" to a man that is vowing to take over the responsibility of looking out and caring for you. This may be the first time you see tears in your father's eyes because it's not an easy thing to accept.

The father-daughter dance is a big deal and should be treated that way. At the very least the words in which your DJ/MC or Event Host use to introduce you should be filled with sincerity and purpose. He should be able to convey emotion and inspire an emotional reaction from your guests. I personally believe the father-daughter dance is as much if not more important than your first dance.

So what can your DJ do to make this more special? Well, it depends on you and the relationship you have with your father, but your DJ should be able to channel that relationship to give you a one of a kind moment.

Below is an example of something you can do to make your father-daughter or mother-son dance more special. Its called a voice-over edit. This service is included for all of the couples that book with me, however, I do offer it for $50.00 to those who have not booked with me. If you are interested in learning more about this unique one of a kind option please email me.

Music Collection - Physical Copy vs Streaming

Michael Guyre — Tue, 13 Mar 2018 16:06:29 +0000

I recently came across a post from a newer DJ in one of our industry groups who seemed to be in a pickle because the venue he was going to be working at didn't have wifi, and cell service at the location was shotty. He asked

"What do you do when the venue does not have good wifi or cell phone reception??

How does your DJ manage their music? Technology is always changing. For those of us that have been in the DJ business long enough, we have seen several different media types used over the years. Records, Tapes, CDs, Digital MP3s, and now Streaming.

Streaming music is the hot new thing for consumers. With the era of Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon Music, and others that seem to pop up daily, there is no doubt that streaming is here to stay. In fact, there have been rumors that Apple may stop selling music altogether in favor of their Apple Music streaming platform. What does this mean to you the consumer? If you are a subscriber to one or more of these platforms it is great for you. You have virtually unlimited access to millions of songs anytime anywhere for a low monthly price. I myself have been a subscriber of Spotify since day 1 when they came to the USA. This may sound like a great idea for a DJ too! UNLIMITED MUSIC FOR $9.99/month WHERE DO I SIGN UP??? What's really cool is at least two major DJ apps actually integrate with Spotify. AWESOME RIGHT! WRONG! Here is the major problem with streaming music. You need to rely on a wifi connection or have a robust data plan for your cell phone complete with tethering. So what seems like a great low-cost way for a DJ to jump into business using a streaming plan, can instantly become a huge party blunder.

"But my venue does have wifi so that doesn't matter."

Maybe not, but I imagine you like all consumers have experienced first hand the frustration when your internet seems to go out for no reason, or when you are in a densely populated area, and the wifi is so slow that you can't even refresh your Facebook feed. Every day we place a larger demand on the bandwidth of our internet resources. We are downloading and streaming larger and larger files. So the more devices that are connected to a single wifi will consume more of that bandwidth limiting the speed in which we can work and download content. So if you have a hundred guests connected to your venue wife, uploading pictures to Instagram, live streaming on Facebook, or whatever else people do with their phones at weddings now. You increase the risk that your DJ if only relying on a streaming platform may not be able to download the music, or worse it might start, then stop, then start again. (You know this has happened to you while binge-watching your Breaking Bad on Netflix).

Streaming services are great if your DJ finds him/herself in a pinch and doesn't have a song that you or a guest just requested. It's extremely convenient to have access to large music collections to play that request, but if your DJ relies on streaming as their primary source of Music I would urge you to find a new DJ. There are many problems associated with this approach, not to mention it is also against the terms of use policy of at least the major players. Music isn't cheap to purchase and maintain and is one of many reasons why DJs tend to demand a premium. Those who charge less than $500 I would question the legitimacy of their music collection, It's easy to stay cheap if you are only paying $9.99 per month for music, but I wonder what the DJ above is going to do without a source of wifi for his music. I have a music subscription that is only available to DJs through a company called Promo Only this subscription provides me with the latest releases daily and they are physical files that I download, backup, and own. So whether a venue has wifi or not doesn't affect the way I do my job. In fact, sometimes it makes it better because guests are actually present rather than being on their phones. Let's not forget the next time Taylor Swift or another artist is upset with the royalty payouts from streaming platforms and pulls their music.

How To Choose Your Wedding DJ. Best Questions To Ask.

Make sure your DJ has a backup! With the era of digital music and computers upon us, many DJs are turning to this technology to index and play their music. Computers and equipment can and will fail. Will your DJ have a backup system, or will your Wedding end early?

How does your DJ manage their music? There are many ways to manage a music collection. Physical media (CDs and Records), digital (MP3s, MP4s, AACs) or streaming (Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play) All have advantages and disadvantages, but ideally owning a physical copy whether a CD or digital file is best. Streaming can be useful in a bind or to accommodate a random request, but should never be used as a primary music source. For more detailed explanation check out Music Collection - Physical vs Streaming

Verify setup time vs start time! Your Wedding starts at 2 pm and your contract specifies 2 pm. Is your DJ going to start setting up at 2 pm or start playing at 2 pm?

Meet your DJ! DJ’s experience, quality, and personality can vary widely. If you use a large company with many DJs, make sure you meet the DJ assigned to you, and verify that they will not be switched out at the last minute for someone with less experience.

Like your DJ! We’ve all heard of the “cheesy” DJs that steal the spotlight and/or are not very good. Your DJ is the one person that can completely MAKE or BREAK your event. Your DJ has the distinct responsibility to represent YOU and Your tastes. Hire someone who best represents who YOU are, and doesn't steal the spotlight.

Don’t get hung up on the fancy equipment! CD, Albums, Records, MP3s, Mixers, Subs, Speakers... Truth is only a fraction of this lingo matters. A great DJ can put on a great show, and entertain with just about any equipment. The equipment doesn't make the DJ, the DJ makes the equipment. Great DJs can read the crowd, and select the music that best fits the tastes of his/her audience.

Liability Insurance: Make sure your DJ has insurance. Some venues require outside professionals to provide proof of insurance and don't usually warn their clients. I have seen couples scrambling last minute because the DJ they hired did not have any or enough insurance to meet their venues requirement. Having insurance not only protects you and your guests in the unlikely case that something goes wrong and someone gets injured, but it also is a good indication of how professional, dedicated, and detailed your DJ is.

What if the venue loses power? Ask every DJ you speak with what their backup plan is in the case your venue loses power during your reception. If the response is something like "power is beyond my control" then I would urge you to keep looking. Great DJs and hosts have a backup plan for every scenario including the loss of power.

What can they add to your wedding? Ask what it is that separates them from other DJ companies. This industry is very saturated with many people who think weddings are just easy weekend money. There are only a few very dedicated individuals that actually care enough to go above and beyond. For instance, we make it a point to speak with parents and anyone giving toasts prior to your wedding to help create some truly unique and memorable moments. As an example, at a recent wedding, I did I learned that the grandmother of the groom would be unable to attend the wedding due to health concerns. I arranged with his mother prior to the wedding to get an audio recording of his grandmother giving her best wishes to the couple. This was then played following the toasts. There was no better moment than that one at their wedding (see the photo below). Find someone who is invested and cares about making your day as special and memorable as possible.
