Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, but it can also be one of the most expensive. While it's important to stick to your budget, you also want to make sure that your wedding day is unforgettable and that the investment was worth it. This is where a skilled wedding DJ comes in – they can help make your wedding day worth the overall investment.

Beyond the Price Tag: The Value of Hiring a Professional Wedding DJ

When considering a wedding DJ, it's important to think about the value they can bring to your day, beyond just their price tag. A skilled wedding DJ can provide a range of services that will make your wedding day run smoothly, including emcee services, lighting, and sound equipment. They can also offer additional services such as photo booths, dancing on the clouds, and custom monograms to personalize your wedding. By investing in a wedding DJ who offers a variety of services, you'll have a better chance of finding the perfect fit for your wedding day.

Quality of Work and Experience

Another factor to consider when hiring a wedding DJ is the quality of their work and level of experience. You want a DJ who has a great track record of providing quality entertainment and knows how to get the party started. Look for a DJ who has experience working with a variety of clients and venues, and who has a portfolio of successful weddings to showcase their work.

Professionalism

Lastly, it's important to choose a wedding DJ who is professional and reliable. You want someone who will show up on time, dress appropriately, and act in a professional manner. A professional wedding DJ will also be able to work with you to create a customized playlist that fits your taste and style. They will also have backup equipment and plans in case of any unforeseen circumstances. By choosing a professional and reliable wedding DJ, you can relax and enjoy your big day, knowing that everything is taken care of.

The Cost of Weddings and the Value of a DJ

Weddings can be costly, but a professional wedding DJ can help make it worth it. By investing in a wedding DJ who can deliver the quality and value you deserve, you'll ensure that your wedding day is unforgettable. A great DJ can create an atmosphere that will keep your guests on the dance floor all night long and create memories that will last a lifetime. By choosing a professional wedding DJ, you'll not only get great entertainment, but you'll also get peace of mind knowing that everything is taken care of.

How To Choose Your Wedding DJ. Best Questions To Ask.

Audio Events — Sun, 04 Mar 2018 13:56:26 +0000

Make sure your DJ has a backup! With the era of digital music and computers upon us, many DJs are turning to this technology to index and play their music. Computers and equipment can and will fail. Will your DJ have a backup system, or will your Wedding end early?

How does your DJ manage their music? There are many ways to manage a music collection. Physical media (CDs and Records), digital (MP3s, MP4s, AACs) or streaming (Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play) All have advantages and disadvantages, but ideally owning a physical copy whether a CD or digital file is best. Streaming can be useful in a bind or to accommodate a random request, but should never be used as a primary music source. For more detailed explanation check out Music Collection - Physical vs Streaming

Verify setup time vs start time! Your Wedding starts at 2 pm and your contract specifies 2 pm. Is your DJ going to start setting up at 2 pm or start playing at 2 pm?

Meet your DJ! DJ’s experience, quality, and personality can vary widely. If you use a large company with many DJs, make sure you meet the DJ assigned to you, and verify that they will not be switched out at the last minute for someone with less experience.

Like your DJ! We’ve all heard of the “cheesy” DJs that steal the spotlight and/or are not very good. Your DJ is the one person that can completely MAKE or BREAK your event. Your DJ has the distinct responsibility to represent YOU and Your tastes. Hire someone who best represents who YOU are, and doesn't steal the spotlight.

Don’t get hung up on the fancy equipment! CD, Albums, Records, MP3s, Mixers, Subs, Speakers... Truth is only a fraction of this lingo matters. A great DJ can put on a great show, and entertain with just about any equipment. The equipment doesn't make the DJ, the DJ makes the equipment. Great DJs can read the crowd, and select the music that best fits the tastes of his/her audience.

Liability Insurance: Make sure your DJ has insurance. Some venues require outside professionals to provide proof of insurance and don't usually warn their clients. I have seen couples scrambling last minute because the DJ they hired did not have any or enough insurance to meet their venues requirement. Having insurance not only protects you and your guests in the unlikely case that something goes wrong and someone gets injured, but it also is a good indication of how professional, dedicated, and detailed your DJ is.

What if the venue loses power? Ask every DJ you speak with what their backup plan is in the case your venue loses power during your reception. If the response is something like "power is beyond my control" then I would urge you to keep looking. Great DJs and hosts have a backup plan for every scenario including the loss of power.

What can they add to your wedding? Ask what it is that separates them from other DJ companies. This industry is very saturated with many people who think weddings are just easy weekend money. There are only a few very dedicated individuals that actually care enough to go above and beyond. For instance, we make it a point to speak with parents and anyone giving toasts prior to your wedding to help create some truly unique and memorable moments. As an example, at a recent wedding, I did I learned that the grandmother of the groom would be unable to attend the wedding due to health concerns. I arranged with his mother prior to the wedding to get an audio recording of his grandmother giving her best wishes to the couple. This was then played following the toasts. There was no better moment than that one at their wedding (see the photo below). Find someone who is invested and cares about making your day as special and memorable as possible. The High Cost of a Cheap Wedding DJ

If you are like most couples planning the most special and what should be the most memorable day of your life, then you have probably never had to hire a wedding DJ. So you do what most people do… You search the internet you scan through popular wedding websites, and you send out multiple emails asking…

“I’m looking for a wedding DJ, how much do you cost?”

Sound familiar? If so you are not alone. As far as most couples can tell every DJ provides basically the same service and experience. What if your spouse required heart surgery would you bargain shop based on price for a heart surgeon… they all do the same thing, right?

Is it possible to get a deal for a DJ and/or a heart surgery? Sure but what are the risks involved, and are you willing to take them. Usually, the risks increase as cost decreases for several factors. Experience, proven and consistent results, and demand are some of the key factors. I know everyone needs to learn at some point but would you want someone just out of med school operating on a loved one without having a veteran surgeon overseeing the procedure. Of course not… See surgeons go through years of residency learning from other well-experienced surgeons, but DJs they can download a few songs from iTunes buy a couple of CHEAP speakers from Guitar Center and show up to your wedding without ever working with another experienced DJ. Apples and oranges right? Or is it? I know what you're saying. The surgeon analogy is life or death, while a DJ is just fun or oh well we still got married today. But isn’t it so much more? Is it possible that the DJ you choose could mean the “LIFE or DEATH” of your wedding? The wedding you spent years dreaming about and months planning to ensure its perfection.

So how should you start a conversation with a potential wedding DJ?

Here is a list of questions to ask and determine if the person you are speaking with is an experienced wedding DJ.

1. How many weddings have you performed at? This question is important in determining experience.

2. Are you a full-time DJ? It’s important to understand that most part-time DJ’s are doing this for a little extra spending money. They are not as committed to the growth of their skills or the service they provide. Keep in mind they probably rely on a day job to pay the bills. Having a day job could potentially impact their commitment to you and your wedding. When they rely on a day job to pay their bills instead of you and their other clients, where do you think their loyalty will be?

3. Are you insured? A DJ interested in maintaining a reputation and their business will be well insured. Only hobbyists avoid insurance because they don’t think their part time hobby requires it. What if a guest has a speaker fall on them, or they trip and fall over a wire?

4. Do you have backup equipment? A true professional will always be prepared for the worst-case scenario. Computers crash, electronics fail, speakers blow. How will your DJ respond?

5. What can you do to ensure my wedding is memorable? This is where experience and proven consistent results come in. Every wedding DJ is different, but they should be able to provide you with examples, videos, and client testimonials that will provide you with an idea of the consistent results they have achieved over the length of their career.

6. What do you do to continue to grow your skills and keep with the current trends? The answer to this question will provide you with a lot of information regarding the commitment and dedication your DJ has to his/her craft and to making your wedding a once in a lifetime experience. All great professionals strive to become better, this doesn't apply to only DJs.

So what will a bargain DJ cost you? At the very least it will be the difference between:

“I would now like to invite the bride and her father to the dance floor”

OR…

“I would like to take this opportunity to invite Molly to the dance floor, to share a dance with one of the most important men in her life, a man that has waited for this moment for the last 27 years, her father Michael.”

It’s tough to place value on something you would never have expected, and the above might not be worth the cost savings but it’s hard telling how much more an inexperienced, cheap, or bargain DJ will cost you. I can ensure the cost will result in lost opportunities to create special, and unique memories for you and your guests. These lost opportunities will overflow into lost photo and video opportunities as well. When your guests leave your reception to head home or to their hotel rooms what do you want their conversation to be? Will they be reflecting on the evening and saying how wonderful and amazing it was, especially that one amazing moment that stood out? Or will they be wondering what the hotel will be serving for breakfast, and what time checkout is?

What is important to you? What are you willing to risk?
